Frequently Asked Questions
Is Color Hunch free?
The website is free, and every mode on it is playable without paying for anything. There is no trial, no card, no unlock.
The iPhone and iPad app is a free download with optional in-app purchases for the stages, categories and hints beyond what the browser gives you.
Do I need an account?
No. The website never asks for one and cannot make one for you.
Your level progress and your sound setting are kept in your own browser and are never sent anywhere, so clearing your browser data clears them too.
How is a guess scored?
By how far your color sits from the real one in CIEDE2000, a perceptual measure of color difference — not by how far you moved the sliders.
Two guesses that look equally close to the eye score about the same, even when the dials sit in very different places. A perfect match is 100.
What is the difference between the website and the app?
The website gives you the first ten stages of each mode and two of the five categories. The app is the whole game: every stage, every category, leaderboards, friends, daily play and coins.
Nothing carries over between them. There is no account and no sync, so progress you make in the browser stays in the browser.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. Color Hunch is on iPhone and iPad today.
The website plays in any modern browser, Android phones included, and needs no install.
Is this a color blindness test?
No. Color Hunch is a game, not a medical test, and nothing here diagnoses anything.
What it does tell you is how closely you can match a color by eye, which is a different question from whether you can distinguish two colors at all. If you have a reason to worry about your color vision, see an optometrist.
